Friday Feature - Martin Milford
Hello Martin, how’s your winter been?
Hi, it's been a bad winter. After a full knee operation to be told I can’t play cricket for the season I was gutted.
I was also gutted that after a great tour, the club couldn't get enough players to tour again, but I have manage to keep contacts.
Who do you think will take the most wickets for the club this season?
The player to take the most wickets this season in my absence is Dan White. If he is giving plenty of overs and support with good captaincy, I still THINK he could be a main asset in years to come.
What’s your best memory of tour last year?
My best memory of last year's tour was dazzler walking off the pitch with the ducks and the court trial in the pub.
Taunton county cricket ground, played against Somerset seconds, lovely wicket and outfield. Took 3 wickets in that game and scored 26, but we lost.
Least Favourite Ground?
Brighton when we were in the premier league.
Best player you’ve played with?
Played with Stuart McGill, he took 105 wickets in a season, turned it a mile, but he was banned for swearing at umpires so got banned for the last 3 matches and we lost the premier to Exmouth.
Best player you’ve played against?
Best player played against was Franny De Viellers, South African quickie, who opened the bowling with Alan Donald in Test matches. He was quick, he played for Torquay.
Best moment in cricket?
Scoring 129 not out in the league. The only not out of my 6 hundreds I have scored.
Worst moment in cricket?
Losing the league by 2 points, which if we would have won, we would have been the first team to win league and cup double 3 TIMES IN A ROW.
London Pride or Doombar?
A night with Darren Bazley or Geoff Cole?
Geoff Cole because of red wine LOL.
Last two questions sent in by the fans.
How do you make such a good cricket tea?
Secrets of tea is big sandwiches, clotted cream, barcardi and vodka jelly and ice cream.
Have you got any tips for all the young groundsmen out there?
Yes, make sure you always mark out guards for batsmen. I got this tip from a full time groundsman.
Milford’s final word…
Thank you for the chance of being in the highlight. I know that the Sunday side are going to miss me taking early wickets and taking out overseas players. But I will be back next year aeroplane as well .so see you all as i score and umpire this season, and of course in the true spirit of the game if Dan White is near the top of the bowling averages, I will make sure I am umpiring lol.
