The first team picked up their seventh win of the season on Saturday when they beat Horsham 2’s by 9 wickets. Horsham batted first and amassed 109 all out. The picked of the bowlers were Andy Greig (3-20) and Mac Cox (3-22). In reply, the first team got off to a quick start thanks to Guy Souch (21). Jack Turner then came in and smashed 52 not out off just 42 balls, while opener Tom Lee anchored the innings with 34 not out off 52 balls. With teams below slipping up, the first team are now 44 points clear of their nearest rivals. Full scorecard here.
The second team hosted Broadwater 2’s at The Sportsfield. Broadwater won the toss and decided to bat first. A great bowling and fielding display led to Broadwater being all out for 121. Tim Nicholson was the pick of the bowlers with 4-23. The teams excellent fielding caused 4 run outs. In reply, the second team made light work of the chase, losing just 3 wickets. Opener Harry Standing scored 45 and Darren Bazley saw his team to victory with 37 not out. Full scorecard here.
The third team hosted Worthing 3’s at Fernhust. Worthing won the toss and decided to bat first. After 3 overs things weren’t looking good for the third team when Worthing were 30-0 off 3 overs. However, wickets soon began to fall as Nick Larking (5-22) and Tim Peters (4-48) worked their magic. From 30-0, Worthing were all out for 80. In reply, Geoff Cole (31) and Andy Lee (23) got the third team off to a steady start. They were both dismissed but Darin Bird (22*) and Daniel Rive (0*) finished the job. Full scorecard here.
The fourth team travelled to Arundel. Arundel 3’s batted first and scored 191-7 off their 40 overs. Two injuries made life difficult in the field but tremendous bowling from Theo Hemsley (4-38) and tight bowling from the rest, meant Arundel were restricted to less than 5 an over. However, things didn’t go to plan with the bat, as the fourth team were bowled out for 70. Shaun Keyte top scoring with 21. Full scorecard here.
On Sunday, the Sunday side hosted wandering side Yellow Stump. In a 35 over game, the Sunday side scored 190-7 batting first, with Dan White hitting a career best 75. In reply, Yellow Stump were restricted to 128-8. Some tight bowling from everyone, especially from 13 year olds Dan Foot and Jake Howson on their Sunday side debuts. Full scorecard here.
